Learning Japanese – The dakuten and handakuten

Here is a quick article to present the differences in pronunciation induced by the use of the dakuten, also called tenten: ゙ and the handakuten (also called maru): ゚


When the dakuten is added to the characters:

かきくけこ [ka ki ku ke ko]

it gives:

がぎぐげご [ga go gu ge go].

When the dakuten is added to the characters:

さしすせそ [sa shi su se so]

it gives:

ざじずぜぞ [za ji zu ze zo].

When the dakuten is added to the characters:

たちつてと [ta chi tau the to]

it gives:

だぢづでど [da ji zu de do].

When the dakuten is added to the characters:

はひふへほ [ha hi hu he ho]

it gives:

ばびぶべぼ [ba bi bu be bo].

When the handakuten is added to the characters:

はひふへほ [ha hi hu he ho]

it gives:

ぱぴぷぺぽ [pa pi pu pe po].
